History
Benz Microscope was founded in 1954 by Raymond W. Benz. Ray was a Ferris State graduate with a degree in pharmacy. The business began as a medical supply company but quickly changed its emphasis to microscopes and scientific products. Ray retired in 1970 and his son Robert who had been trained by Swift Instruments in California moved to Ann Arbor to take over the company. During this period many new brands of instruments and products were added and a national catalog was introduced. In 1984 Benz Microscope Optics Center/Michigan Medical Supply Company incorporated and became just Benz Microscope Optics Center, Inc. In 1999 Bob retired and his son Michael who had worked in the business for many years took the helm. Michael, who has had professional training from Bausch and Lomb, Swift Instruments, American Optical and Leica has passed on the technical training to his staff of technicians for quality service. This is a third generation business continuing emphasis on service and providing quality products at discounted prices.
